Check out our Virtual Tour presentation (December 2023) to get to know the IMFSE programme!

In episode 73 of the Fire Science Show programme directors Bart Merci and Eulalia Planas were invited to talk about the secret of IMFSE. In the podcast they talk about what makes a great fire engineer, why IMFSE is so successful and what differentiates our programme from others in the world.

Study Programme, Programme Goals & Learning Outcome

IMFSE is a 2-year full-time Master programme consisting of 120 ECTS credits in total. This breaks down into 4 semesters of 30 ECTS credits each. Click on the button below to find out more about the courses, goals and learning outcomes:

Mobility Structure

The mobility structure, with possible change in study location after each semester, gives students the opportunity to gain from the strengths and expertise of different universities in the field of Fire Safety Engineering.

Semester 1 at Ghent University or The University of Edinburgh covers basic topics in Fire Protection Engineering. All students gather at Lund University to spend semester 2 there, with emphasis on enclosure fire dynamics, risk analysis and human behavior in fire. More in-depth courses are given during semester 3 at Ghent University or Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Semester 4 is dedicated to the Master’s thesis, and students can be hosted by 1 of the Full Partner Institutes or 1 of the Associated Partner Institutes. Collaborations with 1 of the IMFSE Contributors is also a possibility.
